人教版高中英语必修三Unit 1 Festivals around the world一、Analysis of teaching material This unit talks about many kinds of festivals in different part of the world.The first readingbriefly describes four different kinds of festivals . By studying this unit, students can know thatfestivals exit everywhere,and many of festivals in different countries celebrate similar ideas. Animportant element in this unit is the opportunity to compare and contrast cultural practices inChina and other countries. 1、Knowledge and skill objective Students know about the holiday all over the world and the detail of the holiday , such asorigin of the holiday, content of the holiday, and the date of the holiday, etc2、Process and method objective Students talk about festivals and celebrations in English3、Emotional, Attitude and Value objective Ss learn about the significance of festivals and make the Ss know about the foreign festivalsand respect other countries’ custom.Teaching Key Points How to make the Ss understand the text betterTeaching Difficult Points Enable the Ss grasp the using of Modal Verbs.二、Analysis of Students Although the students have the basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, theystill need many opportunities to practice what they have learned, to express their ideas, feelings,and experience and to develop their autonomous learning ability and cooperative learning ability.三、Analysis of Teaching methodsTask-based language teaching is adopted in this lesson. The task is to get the structure of this


text. I will ask students to dividethe whole text into three parts and try to get the main idea of each part. By means of TBLT, students are involved and engaged in the task and classroom activities, and therefore they can learn moreabout the text.四、Analysis of Learning methodsSs need to develop some reading strategies such as skimming,scanning, summarizinginformation, and so on. In this lesson, students are instructed to develop the above mentionedreading strategies. Since the reading part tells the festivals, it’s necessary for Ss to search somebacground information about it. Besides, they should get information about the festivals.五、Teaching Procedures(一)Step1 Lead-inShow them some pictures of many kinds of festivals and let them talk with each other , andthen use the pictures about festivals to learn new words, for example, Halloween,Valentine’s Day and so on. Q1:What kinds of festivals in China do you know about? Q2:What festivals of foreign countries do you know? Purpose: ① Open the Ss’ mind. ② Get them to be interested in what is going to learn.(二)Step 2 Pre-readingRead the passage as quickly as they can. Then do the Ex .1 in P.3 and predict the main idea ofthe passage.(三)Step 3 While-readingRead the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions on the screen. Qs: Which three times of the year did people celebrate in Ancient Times? What kind of things are done to celebrate the Obon Festival? Why does Indian have a national festival on October 2? How do Europeans celebrate Thanksgiving festivals? Name three things people do at Spring Festival.Reading for detailed information. Purpose: Further understand the text (Train further reading ability) to find out some differentsentences and details of the text.  (四)Step 4 Post-reading  1.Deal with the language points and the using of the Modal Verbs in the text. In memory of ,


dress up , look forward to ,……. 2. Find out the topic sentences. 3. Retell the passage according to the topic sentences. Purpose: I want to know if my students understand the whole textreally and if they masterwhat at I mean to tell them in this class. What’s more, I want to let them have the ability ofintroducing and analyzing expression. At the same time, Iwill write down the topic sentences onthe blackboard according to what the students find,so they can retell it easily.  (五)Step 5 Homework  1. Read the passage again until you can retell it.  2. Make some sentences using the useful expressions given today . 六、Blackboard design  At last, I will talk something about my blackboard design. As far as I am concerned, theblackboard design can reflect the teacher’s ability of mastering the text and leading the students tomaster the text easily.I will write the topic sentences on the blackboard, in order to tell the studentsthe importance of them in this class. I shall make the design inductive, instructive and artistic.  That is all.
