Unit 5 First Aid(The first period)Good morning, judges. I am the No.3 candidate applying for senior high schoolEnglish teacher. It’s my great honor to have this opportunity to share my teaching planwith you. Today my topic is first aid, I’m going to talk about it from 6 aspects, namelyanalysis of the teaching material, analysis of students, teaching methods, learningmethods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. And now I’ll explain the analysisof the teaching material first.Part One: Analysis of the Teaching MaterialThis lesson is the first period of Unit 5,New Standard English for Senior StudentsBook 5, it is a passage about first aid, through the reading passage, The students can notonly learn the knowledge of first aid but also they can learn the reading skills.After thelesson, the students really can master some methods to give others first aid and they canunderstand the whole passage well. Based on the new curriculum standard, I set up three teaching objects as follows: 1. Knowledge objectivesThe knowledge objectives: students master the important words, phrases andsentence structures. Such as barrier, poisons, over and over again, etc. To master thecontent of the reading passage.2. Ability objectivesThe ability objectives are to improve the students’ reading ability and developstudents’ communicative ability.3. Emotional objectivesThe emotional objectives are to make the students learn to care for others and behelpful. Enhance the students’ awareness of co-operation.According to the analysis of teaching aims, I should help students master theimportant points and break through the difficult points as follows:1. Key points:Teaching important point is improving the students’ reading ability by skimming’scanning and intensive reading and getting the students to grasp the new words and


phrases.2. Difficult points:Teaching difficult point is to get the main idea and the key words of each paragraphas quickly as possible and improve their reading ability.Part Two: Analysis of the studentsThe students in senior high school are gradually get used to the school life. Theyare excited to learn in new school and make new friends. But some students are too shyto express themselves in English. Through the study of this lesson, they can grasp thereading strategies of learning English . Then, they can improve their confidence andinterest in English study.Though students are able to read the text, it is difficult for themto use different reading skills to read the text. Teacher should give the students specificstatements about the two reading skills and make sure they can master the skills.Part Three: The Teaching MethodsI will use the following teaching methods to lead the students learn the new lesson:Communicative teaching method,Audio-visual teaching method and Task-basedteaching methodIn the part of Reading and Vocabulary we can train the students to make a goodunderstanding of the passage gradually by using different learning methods, such asskimming and scanning, working and discussing in groups, free talk, retelling, etc.Part Four: The Learning MethodsStudents will adopt researching learning method together with cooperative learningmethod in this lesson. The learning Methods of this class include pair work, groupwork, individual work and discussion, speaking, and writing.Teaching AidsMulti-media computer, tape recorder, PPT will be needed in this lesson.Part Five: Teaching ProceduresNow it comes to my most important part-teaching procedures.Step 1 warm up Show a video (which is a bicycle accident ) to the students and ask them aquestion.“How do you help the injured student if you meet such a situation?”Ask 2-3


students to answer the question.Because the questions is closely related to their daily life ,students learningenthusiasm can be stimulated , and it can lead the content of the text which first aidnaturally.Step 2 Pre-readingLook at the pictures and title of the passage to predict the content. Then listen tothe tape to check if they are right.What I do in this step are helpful for students learning more about the text andpreparing for the passage we will learn in the next step.Step 3 While-reading1. skimmingTo get the students to read the passage quickly and accurately ,meanwhile help thestudents to form a good habit of reading. Give the students a couple o f minutes to lookthrough the whole passage and answer several questions,such as “What do the lettersDR ABC stand for ?What should we do when we have checked the DR ABC ?Whatshould we do when we have given first aid ?”and so on.By doing this activity, the students can improve their reading skill—skimming.And their ability of searching information can be strengthened. Besides , this step buildsa solid base for the latter reading comprehension.2. scanningThe students are asked to scan the text quickly, summarize the main idea of eachparagraph and find out the topic sentence of each paragraph.The purpose of this design is to train the scanning ability and thinking abilities ofstudents. 3. Careful-readingThis part will mainly deal with the contents of the text.Task 1: Let the Ss read the text again and then try to guess the meaning of the newwords and phrases, Such as first aid, fall ill, electric shock etc.on the blackboard. I willexplain the complex words, phrases and sentences.Task 2:students Read the text carefully ,divide the whole passage into several parts,


and sum up the general idea of each part.Task 3 answer the following questions to get more detailed information of thepassage.What is to be done if clothing is stuck to the burn?Why is it best to place burns under gently running water for about 10 minutes?How should second degree burns be dealt with?The goal is to let Ss get further understanding of the article and check their readingresults and the deployment of the reading strategies. Step 4 Post-readingIn this step I design two activity to help the Ss strengthen what they have read andlearnt before.Activity1. Work in pair.In pairs make up a dialogue about the first aid, using the expressions of thepassage.Ss can practice their listening and speaking ability through the activity.Activity2. Retell the passage. Retell the passage according to the key point on the blackboard in groups, everygroup select a representative show it to the whole class, and I will give some reward tothe best one.This activity focused on their speaking ability and organization of material. It alsocheck whether the Ss grasp the main idea of the text.Step5: SummarySs summarize what we have learnt. Use the retell skills let Ss retell the generalideas of the passage. Make an assessment on each group. Pick out the best group andthen emphasize the importance of group work and self-learning.Step 6 HomeworkHomework is not a repetition of today's lesson. Yet, it is important for the furtherdevelopment of students' language ability. So, I'd like students to write a story aboutfirst aid they are familiar with using the new words and phrases that they have learnedtoday.


Part Six: Design of the blackboardFinally, I will talk about my blackboard design. To grasp the main idea of reading,I will write main idea and the key words, phrases on the blackboard.Unit 5 first aidMain idea:Part 1:Part 2:….Key words: Phrases:
